Bike rack as a ski rack? I am gonna buy skiis next season so I will need a way to transport them on my Miata. One of my potential ideas is to just use my bike rack and strap them to there. Anyone ever done this before or have a better way for mounting skiis to a trunk? This is the bike rack that I have:

I am also considering the same idea but with a trunk mounted luggage rack but that would be a little more pricey:

Yeah, I have the bike rack and use it all the time for my mountain bike. That works wonderfully as it is designed for that.

Well, I guess I wouldn't have to buy skiis then either!

i went with a hitch mounted rack. I had heard a lot of people having issues with the trunk racks damaging their cars. some had the mounting clicks rub paint, same with the resting points. A friend of mine also had his rear lift gate dented by the lower resting bar with only 2 bikes on the rack. I'd get a ski bag and but the skis in a bag and tie that down tight.

Ahh a ski bag would work well for that. Something I should get anyways. Ski bag tied down to a luggage rack would probably be the most ideal solution. I would be able to use the luggage rack for multiple purposes as well.

This is basically what I had in mind. This is an old set of skis mounted on the bike rack. Imagine my bed is the car. Sorry for the messiness though haha.
